The Packing Shed Lunch
Friday 4th & Saturday 5th September 2026
Some lunches could happen anywhere. This is not one of them.
This September, The Greyhound returns to Marsh Island, just off West Mersea. This year, for the first time, we are doing it twice.
Two long lunches in the Packing Shed. A private tidal island, reached only by boat.
We will meet guests at the dock with a seasonal drink before boarding the boats and crossing the estuary, passing old boats, moorings, and the working edges of the shore, until Marsh Island comes into view.
On arrival, top up your glass and then a little time to walk, look out, and take in the island before lunch.
Lunch will be served in the Packing Shed, an old oyster shed shaped by weather, tide, and work. It sits on stilts, and as lunch unfolds, the tide comes in beneath your feet. You sit above it, eating, drinking, and listening to the breeze move through the room.
Adam will cook over fire. The menu will follow the coastline around us, with day boat fish, shellfish, smoke, butter, salt, sweetness, and a few things foraged from the island that morning.
Will will pour a short but exceptional list of wines. Bottles with freshness, texture, and lift. Wines for oysters, crab, flame, sea air, and the long middle of lunch.
Then the tide turns. Lunch winds down. The boats come back.
Rare, a little wild, and quietly magnificent. One we are very proud to share.

The Details
Two lunches only
Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September, from midday
Estimated end time: 4pm
£175 per person, plus a £25 Packing Shed fee.
Bookings now open via our website.
Packing Shed Fee
The Packing Shed fee goes directly to the foundation that keeps the shed usable and standing. Guests will also be able to make a donation to the trust.
Corkage
Corkage is available at £50 per 750ml bottle. If you do bring your own wine, please note that we are limited to one wine glass per guest. There will be a bit of swilling out between bottles, like on holiday. We like it that way anyway. It is how lunch should be.
Dog-friendly
Dogs are welcome, of course. They will need to be very well behaved, happy around other dogs in the same space, and comfortable settling under the table. There is not a great deal of room, so there are just a few things to know.
Footwear
Please note that guests will need to be comfortable getting in and out of a boat from a dock. We have good tides for getting on and off the island and walkways to help, but it can still be a little muddy, so sensible footwear is recommended. We encourage guests to bring a pair of boots and shoes for lunch.
